Now is the time for people who need health insurance in 2025 to shop for coverage. For those without employer, Medicare, or Medicaid coverage, Healthcare.gov or their state exchange is the place to shop for Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans. Most shoppers will be able to find health coverage for $10 or less per month with financial help for prescription drugs, doctors, and hospitals.

Fall Open Enrollment for ACA plans started November 1 and runs through January 15 in most states. A few states do have different enrollment timelines, so residents of states on this list should check their state rules or find local help to assist their shopping.

Importantly, though the enrollment period lasts until January 15, those needing coverage to begin January 1 should plan to enroll by December 15. Coverage for those enrolling after that date will begin February 1, 2025.

Even those currently on an ACA plan should compare coverage options each year to ensure they are getting the best fit for their circumstances. People with Medicare or Medicaid should encourage loved ones without coverage to explore their ACA coverage options. Affordable, high quality insurance coverage improves people’s health, well-being, and financial security. Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA work together to provide vital coverage to fit people’s needs.
